Professor Carrillo will join us in Spring 2021 after he completes his National Science Foundation: Social and Behavioral Sciences Postdoctoral Research at the University of California Santa Barbara and Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro.

Sociology Major Caroline Sparks is Recognized for her Campus Leadership
OU Sociology undergraduate major, Caroline Sparks, was recently recognized for her campus leadership from the OUDaily. Sparks is involved in Camp Crimson, Gaylord Ambassadors, and the Gender + Equality Center and she was recently named a McNair Scholar.
Carrie M. Leslie receives a National Science Foundation NRT Fellowship
Congratulations to OU Sociology doctoral student Carrie M. Leslie who has been awarded a National Science Foundation NRT (National Research Traineeship) for EOS3 (Earth Observation Science for Society and Sustainability)! This National Science Fellowship begins July 1st and allows Carrie to expand her research in Environmental Sociology, Social Justice, and Regenerative Development.
Rin Ferraro accepted into the Interdisciplinary Training Program
Rin Ferraro, PhD candidate in Sociology, was accepted into the Interdisciplinary Training Program at the Center for Child Abuse and Neglect, in the Department of Pediatrics, at OU HSC. This interdisciplinary, year-long training program in the field of child abuse and neglect will include both classroom teaching and hands-on experience.
Kyle Callen Successfully defends MA Thesis
Congratulations to Kyle Callen, who successfully defended his Master’s thesis “Native American Hegemonic Struggle and Problematizations: Exploring the Connections between Tribal Socioeconomic Disparities and Differences in Power and Place within Capitalist Society."

Dr. Perry Wins award for Research Impact
Assistant Professor Sam Perry has been recognized with this year’s “Vice President for Research and Partnerships Award for Outstanding Research Impact." This honor is given annually to the OU faculty member who’s research has greatly impacted their field and society at large.
Carrie Leslie receives the Loretta McQuire Fellowship
Congratulations to Carrie Leslie for being awarded the Loretta McQuire Fellowship! This is a new fellowship being awarding for the first time. In addition to her GTA funding, Carrie will receive a multi-year fellowship cash award beginning in fall 2020 ($1500) and continuing at a rate of $2K each fall for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Hekmatpour receives a Mergler Dissertation Completion Fellowship
Congratulations to Peyman Hekmatpour for being selected as a recipient of the Nancy L. Mergler Dissertation Completion Fellowship! Peyman is currently working on his doctoral dissertation titled "Global vs. Local: Panel Analyses of Economic, Political, Environmental, and Gender Inequalities in Late Capitalism."
Piotrowski awarded Fulbright to Poland
Congratulations to Dr. Martin Piotrowski on being selected as a recipient of the Fulbright U.S. Scholars award to Poland for the 2020-2021 academic year. The Fulbright program offers scholars the opportunity to travel and stay in residence in a foreign country in order to engage in research and teaching activities.
