Assistant Professor Samuel Perry is a co-autuhor on the 2019 Distinguished Article Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. His article (co-authored with Andrew L. Whitehead and Joseph O. Baker) "Make America Christian Again: Christian Nationalism and Voting for Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential Election" also won the 2019 Distinguished Article Award from the Association for the Sociology of Religion.
Assistant Professor Cyrus Schleifer recently published his research in the American Sociological Review (ASR). The ASR is the flagship journal of the American Sociological Association and is among the most prominent journals in our field.

She will be working as a Research Programmer in the Health Improvement section where she will get to work with state and federal Healthcare/Medicare/Medicaid data to evaluate the effectiveness of healthcare policies.
Current OU Sociology PhD canidate Leslie Miller was awarded a Nancy L. Mergler and Bullard Dissertation Completion Fellowship. The award is for doctoral candidate in the final phases of dissertation writing. Leslie’s dissertation project is titled, “Peoples’ Experiences with Pouches (PEWP) Study: An Examination of Providers’ Communication and the Stigmatization of Ostomates.”
Dr. Forrest Rodgers - who earned his PhD from OU Sociology in 2012 - is the recipient of this year’s Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences’ Ken Peak Innovation in Teaching Award.
Congratulations to our Ph.D. student, Melissa Maxey! Melissa was elected to serve as one of two Student Representatives on the Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) national Board of Directors for the 2019-21 term.
Dr. Maher, Associate Professor of Sociology, hosted a panel on Gun Control and Gun Rights in her Social Problems course. The presenters and students modeled civil discourse, listening, and critical thinking on a contentious issue facing society today.
Congratulations to Marshall Schmidt who has accepted a tenure-track position as an assistant professor position at Montclair State University. He will be starting in the fall of 2019 in the Justice Studies department.
In late 2018, Dr. Meredith G. F. Worthen in the Department of Sociology created #MeTooMeredith: a social media platform that gives survivors a place to share their stories anonymously. Since its inception, #MeTooMeredith has recieved media attention from The Norman Transcript, KOCO Channel 5, The OU Daily, and KGOU among other outlets. In addition, thousands of followers have flocked to the page and hundreds of stories have been posted.
