We welcome students from both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa campuses who are interested in emergency medicine to rotate with us. OU Students are encouraged to rotate in our department regardless of intended specialty, as we believe Emergency Medicine is applicable to any medical or surgical field. Our two or four week rotations give our students a strong introduction to Emergency Medicine that will serve as a solid foundation for subsequent EM rotations for any EM-bound students. Our students learn in our busy, high-acuity Emergency Department with a broad range of patient presentations and are exposed to cutting-edge diagnostic, therapeutic, and educational approaches.
OU students have the option of a rotation in the 3rd or 4th year. OU students may rotate year-round. Visiting students may rotate July through November of their fourth year.
Students interested in applying to Emergency Medicine residency will receive a SLOE from this rotation if completed in June of the MSIII year or in the MSIV year. All EM-bound students are encouraged to rotate sometime between May of the 3rd year and August of the 4th year to allow time for subsequent away rotations to complete their application packets.
We also offer a 2-week selective in the MSIII year for OU students who are particularly interested in Emergency Medicine. Requests for the 2-week rotation should go through Student Affairs.
OU students will find our rotation in their course catalogue listed under ‘Selectives’ (EM 9101).
Please contact our selective director, Dr. Julie Dodson, with any additional questions.
