Welcome to the University of Oklahoma Department of Emergency Medicine (OUDEM). Established in 2006 as a full academic Department at OU, OUDEM graduated its inaugural class of Emergency Medicine specialists in June 2011. OUDEM serves the needs of the University as its only Department of Emergency Medicine, with a commitment to serve both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa campuses of OU's medical school. OUDEM's main Emergency Department clinical operations are based in Tulsa but our residents and medical students also spend time in Oklahoma City.
The commitment of many within OU, with assistance from funding sources including the State of Oklahoma, allowed OUDEM to grow and thrive during its early years. With over $15 million of grant support since departmental inception, our group is well on its way to meeting the mission of advancing Oklahoma's EM education, research, and clinical service.
OUDEM's overarching goal is to improve Oklahoma's healthcare outcomes through leadership and collaborative participation in a variety of spheres. Our central missions include the study, practice, and teaching of high-quality EM care that is evidence-based and cost-effective. We also aim to serve as a resource for EMS and disaster medicine planners, practitioners, and trainers.
