Research
Immunologists in the Basic Science Research Section of the OU Department of Surgery have ongoing research collaborations with general and orthopaedic surgeons at the St. John Medical Center. These projects give fellows, residents and students opportunities for translational research. Each fellow is required to produce scholarly materials of publishable quality and are provided with protected time available at their request.
Current projects relevant to orthopaedics include:
- The assessment of pro-inflammatory factors and growth factors in bone marrow obtained from femurs during reaming procedures
- The isolation and culture of bone morphogenic stem cells from human bone marrow for future re-introduction into patients
