The OU School of Community Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine (OUDEM) residency program was accredited in 2006 and graduated the first class of 6 residents in 2011. As the only allopathic training program in Oklahoma for the past 19 years, we have expanded to 10 residents per year over a three-year program and have over 120 alumni who work all over the United States. Our devoted faculty are experts in the field of Emergency Medicine including specialization in EMS, ultrasound, critical care, leadership and administration, research, social emergency medicine, disaster medicine, lifestyle medicine and more. Residents are based at Hillcrest Medical Center, but also rotate in the EDs and on off-service rotations at St. John Medical Center and Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. We also offer longitudinal rotations at the rural Muscogee Creek Nation Medical Center in Okmulgee, and the Pediatric Emergency Department at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
The size of Tulsa and the ease of commuting mean that all three primary sites are convenient to the OU medical campus, and inclusion of three hospitals affords the residents chances to rotate on specialized services emphasized at a particular institution (e.g., Burn Center, Trauma Center).
