Faculty Awards

The University of Oklahoma celebrates the great achievements of its talented faculty through a variety of awards and recognitions. More Information about the awards listed below, including selection criteria, submission timelines, nomination procedures, and selection processes can be found on the Norman Campus Faculty Awards website.

 

Institutional Awards and Honors

The following awards are available to eligible faculty on all campuses:

  • David L. Boren Professorship
  • David Ross Boyd Professorship
  • George Lynn Cross Research Professorship
  • Presidential Professorships
  • Regents’ Professorship
  • Regents’ Award for Superior Teaching
  • Regents’ Award for Superior Research and Creative Activity/Scholarly Activity
  • Regents’ Award for Superior Professional and University Service and Public Outreach
  • University Distinguished Teaching Award

Campus Awards

The following awards are available to eligible faculty appointed to Norman-based programs, including those at OU-Tulsa:

  • David L. Boren Award for Outstanding Global Engagement
  • General Education Teaching Award
  • Graduate Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring of Graduate Students
  • Henry Daniel Rinsland Memorial Award for Excellence in Educational Research
  • Merrick Foundation Teaching Award
  • Provost’s Award for Outstanding Faculty Service
  • Provost’s Award for Outstanding Engaged Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity
  • Provost’s Award for Outstanding Engaged Teaching


Deadlines


Nomination packets are due from deans' offices to the offices administering the awards by November 1. Other deadlines and submission details are available on the OU Faculty Awards website.

 

Staff Awards

Each year the Provost’s Office sponsors four awards in the areas of advising and stewardship. Additional awards for staff are offered through Staff Senate.

Advising Awards

Provost’s Outstanding Academic Advising Administrator Award was established to recognize and reward Academic Advising Administrators who have demonstrated outstanding guidance and leadership in the management of advising centers within the academic advising community, as well as, in the academic advising of undergraduate and/or graduate students.

The Provost’s Outstanding Academic Advising Award was established in spring 1991 to recognize outstanding contributions made by University of Oklahoma advising professionals who demonstrate the qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students.

The Provost's Outstanding New Advisor Award recognizes outstanding contributions made by an employee serving as an academic advisor for three or fewer years.

 


Stewardship

The Jennifer L. Wise Good Stewardship Award is designed to recognize outstanding contributions made by staff, who have been determined to have demonstrated the qualities associated with good stewardship.

Student Awards

Each year the Provost’s Office sponsors several awards to honor graduate students.

Nancy L. Mergler Dissertation Completion Fellowship

The Nancy L. Mergler Dissertation Completion Fellowship is an award for Ph.D. candidates who are in the final phases of dissertation writing. The purpose of the award is to recognize especially meritorious projects and to support their completion.

Beginning in 2019, the Nancy L. Mergler Dissertation Completion Fellowship is administered by the Graduate College using funds provided by the Office of the Provost. More information is available on the Graduate College website.

 


Doctoral Dissertation Prizes and Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards

To recognize and reward outstanding performance by graduate students, the Office of the Provost offers two annual awards: the Doctoral Dissertation Prize and the Graduate Teaching Assistant Award.

Each year one Doctoral Dissertation Prize is awarded in each of the following three academic areas:

  1. Science and Engineering
  2. Social Sciences, Education, and the Professions
  3. Humanities and Fine Arts

One Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is also awarded in each of the following three academic areas:

  1. Science and Engineering
  2. Social Sciences, Education, and the Professions
  3. Humanities and Fine Arts

The Provost's Office encourages you to consider nominating both doctoral and master’s students for these awards.
