Faculty Honorifics Committee

Faculty Honorifics Committee

Faculty Awards and Honors

At the University of Oklahoma, we are dedicated to nurturing excellence in research, scholarship, and creative activity among our exceptional faculty members. As part of our commitment to enrich and positively impact Oklahoma, the nation, and the world through research and creative activity, we have established the Faculty Honorifics Committee.

Our Mission

The Faculty Honorifics Committee plays a pivotal role in elevating the national and international recognition of our faculty members, their respective departments, colleges, and our entire University. We accomplish this mission by assisting faculty members in achieving the formal recognition they deserve for their outstanding contributions to research, scholarship, and creative endeavors.

Our committee members are assisting in the nomination process by:

Reviewing Credentials: We meticulously assess the credentials and achievements of our faculty members for nominations to external awards. This includes prestigious memberships in the National Academies and Federal Advisory Committees.

Nominations: We identify and select exceptional faculty members as nominees for highly prestigious and prestigious national and international awards and honorific titles.

Equitable Representation: We strive to ensure that the University of Oklahoma is equitably represented in the nomination process for national and international awards.

Tracking Nominations: We keep a meticulous record of previous nominations and ensure that nominations remaining active for longer than one year are annually updated.

To achieve our goals, we have developed a comprehensive strategy that includes the following key initiatives:

Collaboration: Seeking input and collaboration from Deans, Chairs, Directors, and departmental award nomination committees to identify outstanding candidates.

Subcommittees: Creating specialized subcommittees, each focusing on specific areas of representation, to offer tailored guidance on prestigious honorifics within their respective fields.

Resource Utilization: Leveraging support from the offices of the Provost, Vice President for Research and Partnerships, and the Center for Faculty Excellence to provide application assistance and maintain a database of successful applications.

Proactive Planning: Identifying awards that align with individual strengths and capabilities well in advance of the actual nomination process.

Learning from Success: Studying nominations of past award recipients to gain a deeper understanding of award requirements.

Building Networks: Establishing a supportive network by engaging previous OU award recipients and external award winners.

Information Sharing: Hosting information sessions featuring past recipients of prestigious fellowships and awards to offer guidance and valuable insights for prospective applicants.

The Faculty Honorifics Committee is dedicated to fostering a culture of recognition and excellence at the University of Oklahoma. We are committed to celebrating the remarkable achievements of our faculty and positioning them for even greater success on the national and international stage.

Highly Prestigious Faculty Awards

Faculty or staff receiving an award that is listed on the NRC highly prestigious award list (https://www.aau.edu/key-issues/national-research- council-list-highly-prestigious-awards) are eligible for a $3,000 one-time salary supplement in the year that the award is received. Newly elected members to the National Academies of Science, Engineering, or Medicine are eligible for a $5,000 one-time salary supplement in the year of election. All NRC Highly Prestigious awards received in FY24 are eligible in this cycle. Awardees will be recognized during the OVPRP annual research excellence awards ceremony. Future awards will depend on the availability of funds.

Note: This list only includes those who have received prestigious awards in the last 10 years.
