UNSA/OU Center for Monitoring and Control of Public Health in Arequipa, Peru
In a 3-year collaboration between OU and Universidad Nacional de San AgustÃn (UNSA), this project is evaluating existing and historical local and regional public health data sources in Peru to develop a syndromic surveillance and response system for the Arequipa region.
The initial focus is on the spread and impact of COVID-19, with the intention to expand data and analytical capabilities to other diseases in the future. The syndromic surveillance and response system will be housed within a new UNSA/OU Center for Monitoring and Control of Public Health (CMCPH) that will integrate public health data sources and train UNSA students and faculty in public health surveillance.
The analysis provided by the CMCPH will serve both regional and local public health authorities in the Arequipa Region of Peru.
