Gaylord College invites all students to attend it’s Spring Involvement Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the main lobby of Gaylord Hall.
The involvement fair is for all students, but it is particularly helpful for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Hannah Lisenbee, an ambassador for Gaylord, believes this event is a great opportunity for those new to the college.
“The involvement fair is beneficial primarily to freshmen and transfers because it welcomes everyone to get involved. While being a great place for connections, it is mostly informal so there’s no pressure.”
Even though she realizes this event is most beneficial to newcomers, she also recognizes that it serves current students just as well. “There is a myriad of opportunities at the involvement fair with each major represented, so there’s a little something for everyone,” Lisenbee said.
Past involvement fairs have showcased many of Gaylord’s student-led organizations, such as OU Nightly and Lindsey + Asp, and other opportunities exclusive to Gaylord, like Gaylord in Arezzo and British Media Studies. It also gives students a chance to chat with Gaylord adjuncts, professors and staff.
Clubs and opportunities that are exhibited at the involvement fair have always been a vital stepping stone between Gaylord and the professional world. Snow Forth, a member of OU Nightly and intern for 405 Magazine, credits much of her success to being involved in the world of mass communication outside of the classroom.
“It’s because of my involvement within Gaylord that I have been able to have multiple unique experiences beyond what is taught in the classroom. I have been able to meet new people and learn new skills through being involved in various organizations,” Forth said.
Forth also believes that her involvement has improved her skills and made her more confident which has led to many internship and job opportunities . “The saying ‘you get in what you put in’ is true. I have invested in Gaylord’s clubs and in return, have gotten results back.”
