Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Overview

The Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) established the BME Summer Scholars Program to enable outstanding undergraduate students to work alongside professors in biomedical engineering to encourage their interests in interdisciplinary research and to create new technologies that advance human health.

The BME Summer Scholars Program offers students a chance to receive intensive hands-on training and experience in active research laboratories over a 10-week summer program. In addition, the scholars will participate in a series of enrichment activities, including weekly mixer/lunch meeting with faculty and fellow scholars, professional development presentations (e.g., giving a national conference presentation, writing a journal paper), organized tours to biomedical engineering labs with hands-on activities, etc.

At the conclusion of the program, students participate in a symposium to present their research outcomes of the summer program and gain experience in organizing, interpreting, and discussing their research results.

For example research topics, view previous participants and projects.

Who can apply?

To apply for the BME Summer Scholars Program, you must meet certain eligibility criteria including: enrolled as an undergraduate student with larger than 30 credit hours and the ability to commit to the program's entire ten-week time frame.
