Binbin Weng

Dr. Binbin Weng is an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Oklahoma (OU). He also serves as the Director of Operations for the OU Microfabrication Research and Education Center. Dr. Weng received his B.S. degree in Physics from Xiamen University and M.S. degree in Semiconductor Physics from Zhejiang University, China. After earning his Electrical and Computer Engineering PhD from OU in 2012, Dr. Weng worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow until 2015 where he then worked as a Research Scientist until 2017.

Dr. Weng's Group focuses on both fundamental and applied nanophotonic research to study the advanced optical structures which include photonic crystals, plasmonic structures, and metamaterials. The purpose of such efforts is for advancing modern light applications in a broad range of areas such as thermal imaging, chemical sensing, wireless data communication, and renewable energy harvesting. Specific topics of recent interest include but not limited to:

RESEARCH INTERESTS

  • Nanophotonic device design and simulation;
  • Quantum-inspired non-Hermitian PT symmetry and Topological Photonics; 
  • Mid-infrared optoelectronic light emitting and detecting devices;
  • Polariton, Phonoriton related "many-body" interaction among Exiton, Phonon, Photon;
  • Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) "VoC" gas detection; 
  • Surface-enhanced Raman Resonant  (SERR) based chemical detection; 
  • Internet of Things (IoT) based sensing/network technology.
