Grading Policies

I do not grade on the curve, so if all students do exceptional work, all students will earn an "A".  The criteria for discriminating among letter grades is as follows:  "A" students demonstrate analysis, originality, depth, and breadth in their work; "Above Average" students demonstrate detail and accuracy; "Average" students demonstrate minimum competency which I define as the ability to express themselves in writing and adequate coverage of the material, with minimal errors.

Assignments are due on the date indicated in the syllabus.  Assignments that are late will receive a 2 percent reduction in grades for each day the assignment is overdue.  The only exception to the "late" policy relates to those students who can provide documentation of severe illness, deployment, or TDI.  The student should then provide this information in advance with a request in writing to extend the deadline. The request must include a target date.  If the material is not received by that target date, the grade will be reduced according to this policy.

Incompletes will be given only in extreme cases such as severe illness, severe family difficulties, deployment or TDI. Requests for incompletes must be made in writing and must include:

  • Documentation
  • Advanced notice
  • Date classwork will be submitted

If the classwork is not submitted by that date, the Incomplete will become permanent.

 Attendance Policy

This class is designed as a self paced class, with the expectation that you will complete all readings and units according to the schedule.  You are responsible for turning your assignments in to me on time.

You must communicate with me within the first two weeks of class. Acceptance of you as a student in my class is solely at my discretion if you have not contacted me or turned in an assignment by the end of the second week.

Academic Misconduct

Acadaemic misconduct is something I take very seriously. You will be wise to look over the University Policy at http://www.ou.edu/provost/integrity/

Students with Disabilities

Any student in this course who has a disability that may prevent him or her from fully demonstrating his or her abilities should contact me personally as soon as possible so we can discuss accommodations necessary to ensure full participation and facilitate your educational opportunities.
