LGBTQ+ Allyship
LGBTQ+ Aspiring Ally is our first step training in helping individuals learn more about the LGBTQ+ community and ways to be supportive. In this 3-hour introduction to allyship we focus on understanding key elements of identity development as it relates to people within the LGBTQ+ community. Participants also reflect on the ways being socialized into binary understandings of self has been harmful to the LGBTQ+ individual and community and how to create change through allyship:
- Understanding the impact of homophobia and heterosexism against LGBTQ people.
- Examining one's personal values and perspectives towards the LGBTQ+ community.
- Looking at coming out and the impact on individuals and families.
- Locating LGBTQ+ resources in the Tulsa area.
- How straight allies can reach out to and connect with LGBTQ+ people.
Sessions are offered once a semester.
