Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)

Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)

CUI is identified by executive branch entities (e.g., Department of Agriculture, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Education) as sensitive information that demonstrates risk resulting from the unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction of information collected or maintained by or on behalf of an organization. Executive branch entities are required to identify and mark CUI that requires safeguarding.

OU Policy requires that contracts having any clause which invokes CUI requirements must be reviewed and assessed for CUI by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships (OVPRP) at OU. Required training by researchers involved in the project is available through Qualtrics and is also monitored by the OVPRP, with support by the OU Information Technology Department. Contact ris@ou.edu for additional information about training.
