Erosion and Sediment Control for Construction Sites

Every year, construction activities expose land to agents of erosion, which in turn leads to sedimentation problems in water bodies. Soil erosion has raised concerns over the past few years due to extreme soil loss and damages in many parts of the world. Although erosion is a natural process, human activities greatly contribute to land disturbances and the alteration of the natural erosion events. Soil erosion causes water quality impairments, habitat and biodiversity loss, property damage, and above all, the cost of fixing its problems can be expensive. Therefore it is important to prevent its occurrence rather than trying to fix its problems. Soil erosion can be prevented through proper implementation of erosion and sediment control Best Management Practices (BMPs). The Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service goal is to provide information and design aids related to erosion and sediment control that will make an impact on stormwater management in Oklahoma.
