Next Steps For Fall and Spring Semesters Only

For Summer Cancellations and Complete Withdrawals please refer to the Summer academic calendar located here.

Students who are wanting to cancel their summer courses (removing all courses from your schedule before the first day of class) do not need to fill out a petition and will need to contact the Office of the Registrar at enroll@ou.edu or (405) 325-3572.

Select the timing that best applies below:

Depending on the timing in relation to the fall or spring semester, there are different ways to start the process of dropping all of your classes. Whether you have yet to enroll or have already registered for the upcoming term or in the midst of the semester, we ask you to notify the University so we may support you throughout the process, place your student status on hold, and drop any upcoming or current enrollments. We also may be able to assist you in minimizing the financial impact of dropping your enrollment. Most importantly, we can help you easily return to OU when you are able or ready to do so.

All petitions are assessed and approved by the review board or by your college. Our goal is to provide you an answer to your petition in seven to ten business days. We will honor the date of petition submission for processing. If you are currently attending classes and you're able, please continue to attend class until you have heard the result of your petition.

If you are stepping away from the University before classes begin and you are ENROLLED for the upcoming semester, this is known as a CANCELLATION. You start the process by completing the petition below. Cancellations are processed centrally and coordinated by the Graduation and Persistence Support team.

Starting on the first day of classes and running through the Friday of the third week, the petition below should be submitted and will be coordinated by Graduation and Persistence Support. During the first two weeks of the semester, a fully processed complete withdrawal is guaranteed a 100% credit of all tuition and fee charges.

Sometimes a student may want to seek academic relief for a previous semester. A Retroactive Complete Withdrawal is dropping all of your courses for a semester that has already ended. This process is coordinated through the academic college you were in during the semester you wish to drop.
