University of Oklahoma American School Exhibition Featured in LA Times

The LA Times highlights the exhibit “Do Not Try to Remember: The American School of Architecture in the Bay Area” at the American Institute of Architects San Francisco’s Center for Architecture + Design. The exhibit was co-curated by OU Architecture Professor Angela Person.

Provoking Genius: William “Bill” Murphy, 1940-2022

University of Oklahoma alumnus William “Bill” Earl Murphy was an accomplished architect and designer who helped introduce the visionary spirit of Oklahoma’s American School to New York and whose inventive work was frequently featured in The New York Times.

American School Team Tours Goff’s Ford House

American School team members Angela Person and Stephanie Pilat recently had the opportunity to tour Bruce Goff’s Sam and Ruth Van Sickle Ford House in Aurora, Illinois. Completed in 1950, the Ford House is owned by Sidney K. Robinson, who graciously hosted Person and Pilat. It was first introduced to the American public in a 1951 Life magazine article entitled “The Round House,” which included six pages of color photographs.

Architecture Professor Awarded OU Arts and Humanities Faculty Fellowship

Stephanie Pilat, professor of Architecture, was recently awarded an OU Arts and Humanities Faculty Fellowship (AHFF). The AHFF provides a semester of support for faculty in the arts, humanities and interpretive social sciences. It is the most competitive and prestigious internal award offered in the arts and humanities at OU.

Professors of Architecture Stephanie Pilat and Angela Person recently presented their research on the American School of Architecture at the book launch for Histories of Architecture Education in the United States. Hosted by Joan Ockman and Fernando Lara at the University of Pennsylvania, a select group of authors featured in this book were invited to share their research.

Architecture Faculty Publish American School Chapter in Scholarly Book

Architecture faculty Stephanie Pilat and Angela Person recently published a chapter in the book, Histories of Architecture Education in the United States, edited By Peter L. Laurence (Routledge, 2023). This book is an edited collection that focuses on the professional evolution, experimental and enduring pedagogical approaches and leading institutions of American architecture education.

OU to Host Art Institute of Chicago Curators for Public Lecture on Bruce Goff Exhibition

The University of Oklahoma Gibbs College of Architecture, in partnership with the OU School of Visual Arts, is pleased to announce that Alison Fisher and Craig Lee will give a public lecture as a part of the 2023 Goff Lecture Series. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Nielsen Hall, room 170.

These exhibitions showcase the works of John Marsh Davis and Mickey Muennig, two architects who studied at OU under Bruce Goff and went on to have distinguished careers in California.
