Behind Gaylord News

May 21, 2024

Oklahomans faced a dire situation in 2018. The last Oklahoma reporter in Washington, D.C., had retired, leaving our state without news representation in the nation’s capital. That was before two award-winning journalists and faculty members, Mike Boettcher and John Schmeltzer, founded Gaylord News later that year.

Where Dream Meets Reality: Kate Frank

May 17, 2024

At this point in the school year, post-graduation jobs and internships are at the forefront of most seniors’ minds. For Gaylord College public relations senior Kate Frank, she’s already had that part down. This spring semester, Frank has been working in New York City as a public relations intern at the fashion house Hermes. While Oklahoma isn’t a state typically known for fashion, Gaylord has provided her with the personal branding, media relations, crisis communication and strategic PR knowledge that she uses every day at her internship at one of the most prominent brands in the fashion industry.

Alumni Spotlight: Pattye Moore

“If Gaylord hasn’t found you, find us because it will be so rewarding to you to give of your time and talents to the students,” Gaylord alumna Pattye Moore said. Moore graduated from OU in December 1979 with a B.A. in public relations and as a member of PRSSA. She attributes her interest in journalism to her high school newspaper adviser and fellow Gaylord College donor, Barbara Sessions.

Tevis Hillis.

Donor Spotlight: Tevis Hillis

May 17, 2024

As a little girl, Tevis Hillis already knew she would end up at the University of Oklahoma. Growing up in Lawton, OK, she was drawn to Norman’s college-town atmosphere. So, when she started as a freshman in August of 2016, she knew she had made the right decision. However, she did not begin her OU journey as a journalism major.
