OU Students Earn Top Honors at SPJ Region 8 Awards

Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication is proud to report that students from the "Gaylord In-depth" practicum course have earned top honors at the recent Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Region 8 Mark of Excellence Awards, recognizing standout collegiate journalism across Oklahoma and Texas.

Key highlights include:

  • Winner, Best All-Around Television News Magazine: "Hell in the Heartland: 10 Years" by Staff, Gaylord In-depth
  • Winner, Television General News Reporting: "Boxed-In: Improving storm shelters" by Carson Sanders
  • Winner, Television Feature Reporting: "Parents keep child's memory alive ten years after school tornado" by Sydney Price
  • Finalist, Television General News Reporting: "Language barrier-storm warnings for Spanish speakers" by Kevin Palomino

First-place winners from this regional competition will advance to the national level of the SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards, with national winners announced later this spring.
