Sarah Sharif
Assistant Professor
Dr. Sharif is an assistant professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. Before OU, she was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, focusing on Quantum light-matter interactions with atom-like emitters in solids. Her Ph.D. research developed Stochastic Optimization and Machine Learning Techniques for Photonic Nanostructures and Quantum Optical Systems. She has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Physics, two M.Sc. in Natural Science (Physics) and Electrical Engineering, and a graduate certificate in Material Science, all from Louisiana State University. Dr. Sharif has more than 10 years of industrial experience as a research and development engineer. She was also an active member of LIGO (The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) group from 2018 to 2020. Dr. Sharif is serving as a member of APS, OSA, Optica, and IEEE; and she will serve as the new leader for the Quantum Optical Science and Technology Technical Group at Optica, starting Jan 2023.
Dr. Sharif is a principal investigator of the QNET (Quantum Nanophotonic Engineering and Technology) laboratories at OU. Her research interest includes:
- Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Engineering
- Quantum Devices and Systems for Next-generation Communication, Computation, and Sensing.
- Nanophotonic and Nanomaterial Structures
