In 2006, the Gallogly College of Engineering, and in turn, the University of Oklahoma was the FIRST university in the country to offer Lean/Six Sigma certification programs to our students and the second to offer these programs to professional and corporate employees.
The OU Gallogly College of Engineering offers one of the longest-running Lean/Six Sigma certification programs in the country, offering workshops to students and corporate partners since 2006. Lean and Six Sigma are benchmark process improvement approaches for manufacturing and service, in both the public and private sectors. Many organizations in fields ranging from the energy sector, manufacturing, military, aerospace, government, and non-profit utilize Lean and Six Sigma tools for competitiveness, and highly value certifications in this field among job applicants. Certification in this area signals potential employers that the practitioner has valuable critical insights, and will be able to engage in roles that require independent thought and creative problem-solving.
All workshops are offered through tele-instruct method via Zoom, to reach all potential participants all over the world. These classes take place mostly on weekend dates to avoid conflicting with professional or coursework during weekdays.

Lean/Six Sigma at the OU College of Engineering is comprised of a two-workshop sequence:
LSS Fundamentals (4.0 CEUs)
This 40-hour (five days, eight hours per day) certification workshop focuses on the background, basic principles, elements, and primary application of Lean (three days) and Six Sigma (two days). This workshop also focuses on the complementary aspects of each, to develop an integrated improvement methodology. Fundamentals workshop covers a white and yellow belt combination plus two days from Green Belt of the typical certification sequence in Lean/Six Sigma.
No specific background in any discipline is required as a prerequisite to register or be successful in receiving the Fundamentals certification.
This training leads to a lifetime "Achievement Certificate," the highest attainable certification level.
LSS Green Belt (2.4 CEUs)
The 24-hour (three days, eight hours per day) Green Belt workshop is offered as follow-on training only to those who have passed the Fundamentals certification examination and have not violated the attendance requirement. To receive this certificate, students must not only pass a Green Belt certification examination but within six months of completing the classroom training, must also complete a project with specific and timely deliverables, demonstrating successful application and understanding of the Lean/Six Sigma toolset. Green Belt training presents additional and higher-level information on both Lean and Six Sigma beyond what was covered in Fundamentals.
This training leads to a lifetime "Achievement Certificate," the highest attainable certification level.
Sequence Offering
The Green Belt workshop typically begins 2-3 weeks following the end of each Fundamentals workshop. Participants are highly encouraged to complete both workshops consecutively, rather than waiting to do the follow-on Green Belt in a subsequent offering.
These workshops are extremely popular across campus among students, staff, and local professionals and always fill up quickly. Please carefully read the refund policy at the registration portal. Register early to guarantee yourself a seat!
