Suzanne Moon Wins Prestigious Da Vinci Medal

November 23, 2021

Dr. Suzanne Moon, Associate Professor in the Department of Science, Technology, and Medicine at OU, received the prestigious Leonardo Da Vinci Medal this November at the annual conference of the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT).

The award announcement praised Prof. Moon for her decade of "pioneering work as Editor-in-Chief of Technology and Culture," SHOT's flagship journal. In that capacity, she took a "leading role in deepening the Society's attention to Asia," encouraging more and greater connections to this vibrant research community. Along the way, she also launched a pathbreaking online publication, Technology's Stories, that combines scholarship and outreach.

The announcement lauded Prof. Moon's own scholarship, stating that it has helped orient scholarship in history of technology along vitally important lines. In particular, her work has made connections to "development theory, STS, global history, and post-colonial studies."

Finally, the Society recognized Prof. Moon as a teacher and mentor, praising her for her "untiring efforts in encouraging junior scholars, innovative teaching efforts, [and] determined training of graduate students."

The da Vinci medal has been given out annual since 1962 to the individual whom the society believes "has made an outstanding contribution to the history of technology, through research, teaching, publications, service to the Society, and other activities." The OU History of Science, Technology, and Medicine department is extremely proud of her achievements.
