The OU Writing Center (write.ou.edu) is a pedagogical service that supports the writing development of both graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Oklahoma. Our services are also open to members of the Oklahoma City/Norman community. The Writing Center provides support through one-on-one and group consultations, workshops, writing camps, and other writing-based programming. The primary goal of the Center is to help writers learn something they can use in the future. Our staff draws on scholarship from Writing Center Studies, Writing Studies, and Higher Education to provide feedback that is thoughtful, intentional, and useful. The Writing Center encourages writers to make regular use of its services and to join our staff in meaningful conversations about writing.
Undergraduate Writing Consultants at the OU Writing Center support the work of the Writing Center, the University, and the students of the University of Oklahoma. Through this work, Writing Consultants help to fulfill the missions of 1) providing broad writing support for undergraduate students, graduate students, and the local community; and 2) creating visibility for the OU Writing Center across campus.
Writing Consultants provide support for the OU writing community both face-to-face and online. The position offers multiple opportunities for professional development, as consultants may assist with special projects, develop and lead workshops, work with community organizations, and present at academic conferences.
Undergraduate Writing Consultants must be currently enrolled undergraduate students at the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus and must hold a status of sophomore or higher and/or have completed two semesters of college-level courses.
The OU Writing Center welcomes and encourages applications from students in a variety of academic disciplines and from different racial, ethnic, and language backgrounds.
Starting pay for this position is $13.00 per hour. Consultants may be eligible for reappointment and annual raises based on yearly evaluations. Limited summer employment opportunities are also available for existing consultants.
Writing consultants work an average of 10 hours per week and may work up to 20 hours per week. Schedules are built based on Writing Center needs and individual consultant availability.
Students with work study awards are encouraged to apply, but work study is not required.

Currently enrolled or incoming graduate student at the University of Oklahoma. Must be enrolled full-time in an eligible degree program.

Office Assistants help perform the administrative support work of the OU Writing Center. The position offers opportunities for professional development and engagement with programs across campus. OAs are also afforded time to work on their own studies when not completing assigned tasks.
Required Education: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student for the semester at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring is contingent upon verification of current student status.
