Professional Values and Attitudes

Skip Side Navigation

Interns will be expected to behave in a manner reflecting the values and attitudes of the field including integrity, accountability, concern for the welfare of others, and commitment to continued learning. Interns will demonstrate openness and responsiveness to feedback from others including supervisors and peers, willingness to engage in self-reflection and assessment regarding their professional and personal functioning. Interns are expected to demonstrate initiative in professional identity formation by identifying individual strengths, areas for growth, and goals. Over the course of the training year interns will be expected to demonstrate increasing ability to operate independently in professional situations.

Knowledge of these values and attitudes is reinforced throughout the course of the training year via intern self-assessments at multiple times, didactic training experiences, and through formal and informal supervisory feedback. Self-assessment of competencies will assist interns in the development of an Individualized Training Plan (ITP) intended to help identify individual strengths, areas for growth, and personal goals for the training year.
