Innovative. Reliable. Cost Effective. Time-sensitive.

WECAD (Wireless Electromagnetic Compliance and Design) Center has a mission to carry out basic and applied research in wireless and electronic compatibility and design. The lab is equipped with a three-meter anechoic chamber and is designed to offer a diverse range of operating frequencies and an assortment of test equipment to help organizations to identify electromagnetic compliance (EMC) problems. WECAD is part of the 10,000 lab space that houses the OU Telecommunications Engineering program. It is home to wireless research activities and visiting faculty and industry partners. State-of-the art laboratories and testing facilities are accessible for commercial use and professionals for applied R&D on new wireless technology. Thanks to world-class partners, the center houses innovative equipment and testing facilities.

Wireless coexistence is the ability of two or more wireless systems to simultaneously perform individual tasks in a given, shared environment with or without the same set of protocols.

Although this process is often lengthy and expensive, WECAD has established an innovative, high quality, cost-effective method for pre-scan testing:

  • Radiated emissions
  • Conducted emissions
  • Radiated immunity
  • Conducted immunity
  • Electro-static discharge (ESD)

An easy-to-read report summarizes test procedures and testing equipment, along with graphs for visualization. The report is available electronically and in hard copy. Raw data is available upon request.

WECAD test equipment includes:

  • 3-meter anechoic chamber
  • Floor-mounted turntable
  • Adjustable antenna mast
  • EMI receivers: 9 kHZ to 26.5 GHz
  • Spectrum analyzers: 9kHZ to 18 GHz
  • Oscilloscopes: up to 1 GHz
  • CCTV for immunity testing

WECAD lab equipment supports:

  • IEEE 802.11b/g/n
  • Bluetooth
  • ZigBee
  • RFID
  • Ultra-wideband
  • Cellular phones
  • Cordless phones
  • Broadband modems
  • Microwave ovens

WECAD provides the flexibility of full programmability in transmission power, radio channel, and modulation, among other variables. Transmitter/receiver pairs can execute programming scripts for full control of the testing procedure. Traffic probes, spectrum analyzers, and packet sniffers can also be used to monitor wireless communication.

Materials and prototype components remain secure and confidential while in our care. Module storage space is available nearby. If compliance issues are detected during testing, our knowledgeable staff offers design troubleshooting, including debugging and assistance with shielding, as well as filtering and grounding techniques.
