Hazem Refai, Ph.D., OU-Tulsa engineering professor, headlined the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce’s Manufacturing Luncheon Oct. 17 with a forecast of the impact of artificial intelligence in the manufacturing sphere.
“One of the benefits of AI in this industry is using it to create new and better manufacturing designs,” said Dr. Refai. “Everyone has heard of the hype around programs such as ChatGPT, but it’s the same for other industries, including manufacturing. It’s important to be aware of what activities are going on in manufacturing, particularly with AI, so this knowledge and education is very important.”
Dr. Refai is the Williams Chair for Telecommunication and Networking at the OU School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the director of the Wireless and Electromagnetic Compatibility and Design Center at OU-Tulsa. He took the audience on a ride through the exciting new world of AI and machine learning, as these disciplines reshape the manufacturing landscape. Just as the confluence of standardized tools and powerful computational hardware has transformed various fields, it's revolutionizing the way experts approach manufacturing.
The lunch brought together manufacturing industry leaders and professionals in the Broken Arrow area to discuss both the current atmosphere and plans and ideas for the future of manufacturing.
