OU-Tulsa Interim President Featured in International Engineering Organization’s Panel on Tenure

Interim President Dr. Jim Sluss

Dr. Jim Sluss, OU-Tulsa interim president and Regents professor of electrical computer engineering, conducted a panel discussion on tenure for a webinar offered by the international engineering organization, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recently.

Dr. Sluss joined a professor from the Warsaw University of Technology in Poland and an administrator from the Chiba University of Commerce in Japan to provide insight for newly appointed tenured professors or those considering tenure. They shared their experiences with tenure including what to expect and areas of focus and research.

“Achieving tenure is a big achievement for any faculty member, but it doesn’t come without its challenges, opportunities and pitfalls,” says Dr. Sluss. “I enjoyed the opportunity to share about my experiences as both a faculty member and an administrator to hopefully offer some perspective as others follow this path in their careers.”

IEEE is billed as the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity and the professional home for the engineering and technology community worldwide. The organization has more than 427,000 members in more than 190 countries and more than 145,000 student members.
