Medical Informatics’ OU Sooner Health Access Network Receives Prestigious NCQA Accreditation

National Committee for Quality Assurance Case Management seal

The OU Sooner Health Access Network (HAN), a program of the OU-Tulsa Medical Informatics department, has recently received the highest Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for Case Management, becoming the first program of its kind to receive this prestigious endorsement in the state. The OU Sooner HAN is a complex care management program created 13 years ago through a contract with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. The OU Sooner HAN managed 3,149 complex care cases in 2022, ensuring its members received the support and care needed to manage their unique health conditions effectively and helping them achieve better health outcomes and improve their quality of life.

“Case Management Accreditation moves us closer to measuring quality across population health management initiatives,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, President, NCQA. “Not only does it add value to existing quality improvement efforts; it also demonstrates an organization’s commitment to the highest degree of improving the quality of their patients’ care.”

Accreditation standards from NCQA, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality, are developed with input from researchers in the field, the Case Management Expert Panel and standing committees of employers, both purchasers and operators of Case Management programs, state and federal regulators and other experts. NCQA Accreditation standards are intended to help organizations achieve the highest level of performance possible and create an environment of continuous improvement.

“OU Sooner Health Access Network is dedicated to providing personalized patient-centered care for our members,” says Rachel Mix, MBA, BSN, director of the OU Sooner HAN. “This Accreditation from NCQA required a lot of dedicated effort from many people to whom we are very grateful. And it reiterates and legitimizes what we know: that we remain committed to providing high-quality care and support to our members and practices.”
