Admissions Requirements

The Hudon College of Public Health offers full graduate degree options at both the Tulsa and Oklahoma City campuses. All coursework requirements for a MPH in Population and Community Health degree and the Graduate Certificate in Population Health are offered regularly at the OU-Tulsa campus. MPH students wishing to specialize in a particular public health discipline or the dual MSW-MPH degree may complete a portion of their required coursework at the Tulsa campus before transitioning to classes in Oklahoma City, which are often taught once weekly. MPH students may complete their practicum experiences at one of many approved practicum sites throughout the state of Oklahoma.

Minimum Academic Admission Requirements for All Master of Public Health Programs

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or above calculated using the upper-division coursework of the bachelor’s degree*
  • GRE test scores are required for all Public Health programs. Scores should be sent to SOPHAS by using the code 4244.
  • TOEFL score of 88 or above for international applicants. TOEFL is only waived for applicants in whose country of origin English is an official language. Neither having had English as the language of instruction nor USMLE standing is used as a basis to waive the TOEFL score.

Applicants who wish to apply for admission to the MPH program must apply through the Schools of Public Health Application Services (SOPHAS) at sophas.org

* The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center uses the 4.00 scale to calculate grade point averages, with an "A" equal to 4.0. An applicant must have a baccalaureate or entry level first professional degree from an accredited university or college and a 3.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) in the last 60 hours of course work applied to the degree. The applicant must be in good standing with the college or university where currently enrolled or last attended in order to be considered for admission in full standing to a degree program. If the applicant's transcript does not identify the last 60 hours, the entire transcript will be evaluated for admission. An applicant who has completed twelve hours or more of graded graduate level course work in an area related to the degree program of interest may be considered for admission. The applicant must have completed the course work at an accredited college or university with a 3.0 grade point average in all graduate work attempted and be in good standing with the college or university where currently enrolled or last attended.
