NORMAN, OKLA. – Honey Ussery has been named the University of Oklahoma's Associate Vice President and Institutional Equity Officer. In this role, Ussery will promote an equitable and safe educational and work environment at OU.
Ussery formerly served as the Assistant Director of Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance and Title IX Coordinator at the University of Mississippi. During her almost nine-year tenure at Ole Miss, she expanded its Title IX office by adding key staff members, drafting and implementing multiple policies, and helped improve the office’s focus and procedures with Title VII investigations.
“Honey’s professional background, particularly the relevance of her experience at one of our SEC counterparts, will undoubtedly elevate the university’s commitment to creating and maintaining a welcoming and safe community,” said OU President Joseph Harroz Jr.
Her expertise in Title IX regulations, decisions concerning Title VII and other regulatory areas are highlighted by multiple invitations to speak at the Mississippi Legal Issues Conference and other various groups on regulatory changes in Title IX.
Ussery holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law. She began her legal career as Assistant District Attorney with the Mississippi Third Circuit District Attorney’s Office, where she managed a variety of complex cases, including those involving sexual assault and domestic violence. She also holds a Master of Arts in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and English.
