The School of Geosciences has been a leader in petroleum and energy geosciences research and education since its founding – the world’s first School of Petroleum Geology.
Today, we conduct a range of basic and applied research in petroleum and energy geosciences including conventional and unconventional energy resources, petroleum geology and petroleum-systems analysis, geothermal energy, critical energy minerals, reservoir characterization and modeling, subsurface geological storage, seismic interpretation tools and workflows based in data science, machine-learning methods to improve multi-attribute seismic analysis, seismic geomorphology, analysis of subsurface structures using active-source seismic and earthquake signals, studies of seismic wave propagation, imaging, inversion, and machine learning.
Below are some of the specific sub-disciplines we are focused on. Please visit the faculty pages for specific projects and contact them for more information.
