Legal Protections vary from country to country and many countries do not legally recognize same-sex marriage. More than seventy countries consider consensual same-sex sexual relations a crime, sometimes carrying severe punishment. Gender has an important role in culture, and studying abroad can be a great way to learn more about how different countries & cultures view gender. Do your research before you go abroad so that you can prepare for how to confidently and appropriately engage in your host culture.
