The Lumine Lifetime Achievement Award is an award designed by Gaylord College to honor extraordinary women professionals in the media industry. This year’s award was given to Sharron Miller, an Oklahoma director, screenwriter, editor and producer.
“Lumine means ‘light’ in Latin, and through hard work, determination, and sacrifice, these extraordinary women have illuminated a path for future generations,” Kathy Johnson said when introducing Miller at the award ceremony.
Miller started her career in a time when there were very few women directors in Hollywood. However, she quickly made a name for herself by working on notable programs and directing highly recognized actors, such as Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney.
Miller has over 100 directing credits, and “L.A. Law,” “Homefront,” and “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams” are just a few of the television shows that she worked on.
One of her most notable accomplishments as a woman in the media industry is that she was the first woman to win the Directors Guild Award for directing a dramatic film. Some of her other awards include a Daytime Emmy Award, the Peabody Award, the Christopher Award, the Los Angeles Women in Film award and three gold medals from the New York International Film and TV Festival.
This year’s event was hosted on Feb. 16 during the Creative Media Marketplace. This is a media industry event held for Gaylord College Creative Media Production students to network with industry professionals.
The event included booths, speed mentoring, panels, and this year’s presentation of the Lumine Lifetime Achievement Award.
Miller is an inspiration and example to the many young and aspiring professionals that attended this annual event.
“We will be eternally grateful for Sharron Miller’s contributions to our industry and her efforts to light a way for the next generation of storytellers,” said Johnson.
