Gaylord College to Host Panel and Exhibition on Ukraine War and Journalism

Gaylord College will host a photo exhibition and panel discussion highlighting the war in Ukraine and its impact on daily life in the country. The exhibition, "Ukrainian Grit and Hope," will run from April 17-21 in the Hall of Fame room in Gaylord Hall. The exhibition features photos by Vitalii Nosach, a Ukrainian photojournalist who is unable to leave Ukraine due to martial law introduced after Russia's invasion.

A panel titled "Journalism in Times of War" will be held at 1:30 p.m. on April 18 in the Gaylord Hall Auditorium. The panel will be moderated by Dick Pryor of KGOU and will feature the following panelists:

• Mike Boettcher, former war correspondent and professor at the University of Oklahoma
• Tanya Gordiienko, visiting scholar at Purdue University and Ukrainian journalist and activist
• Joe Hight, professor and scholar in trauma and journalism at the University of Central Oklahoma

Both the exhibition and panel will be open and free to the public.

Gordiienko has worked for several Ukrainian news media outlets and has been involved with nonprofit organizations Detector Media and the Media Development Foundation. She is currently a visiting researcher at Purdue University's Brian Lamb School of Communication and the Purdue Policy Research Institute.

An opening reception for the exhibition, co-sponsored by the OU College of International Studies, will take place at 5 p.m. on April 17 in the Gaylord Hall rotunda. The reception is open to University of Oklahoma faculty, staff, students and members of the media.
