By Jackson Conner, Gaylord College Public Relations Student, Class of 2023
On Saturday, Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication hosted convocation to celebrate the class of 2022 for completing their journey at the University of Oklahoma.
Hosted at McCasland Field House on the Norman campus, the ceremony celebrated 68 undergraduates and 21 graduate students – 18 of whom completed Gaylord College’s new online masters program.
This year’s keynote address was delivered by Mautra Staley Jones, the president of Oklahoma City Community College.
Upon her appointment to the position earlier this year, she became the first female and the first person of color to serve as president in the 50-year history of OCCC, Oklahoma’s fourth largest institution of higher education.
A graduate of Gaylord College, Jones went on to obtain a doctorate from Vanderbilt University before returning to Oklahoma and serving at Langston University prior to her recent appointment at OCCC.
During her address to the graduating class, Jones shared her tips for success in the post graduate world.
Following her remarks, this year’s graduates were recognized, starting first with graduate degree recipients before moving on to those receiving their bachelor's degrees.
This semester’s convocation ceremony was live streamed by OU and can be found below.
Congratulations to the fall 2022 class!
