Bill Hancock graduated from the HH Herbert School of Journalism in 1972. He eventualy achieved a unique trifecta in college athletics: First full-time director of the NCAA Men's Final Four, first director of the Bowl Championship Series and first executive director of the College Football Playoff. After serving as editor of the Oklahoma Daily student newspaper in the summer of 1971, he began his career as assistant sports information director at OU that fall. Three years later, he became editor of the Hobart (Okla.) Democrat-Chief, then spent 11 years at the Big Eight Conference before becoming Final Four director in 1989. He is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Nicki Perry, who is retired after a 30-year career teaching high school English. Bill will retire in February 2025.
