As a researcher-practitioner, Dr. Hyunju Lee applies philosophical insights to interdisciplinary evidence-based research on transformative education that empowers students and promotes intercultural communication. Her passion lies in empowering all students through aesthetic experience to become active social agents and collectively contribute to social transformation.

Before joining the University of Oklahoma Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education in August 2023, she taught social impact leadership and facilitated students’ leadership projects in local communities at Purdue University Honors College. Also, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Wake Forest University, where she designed and implemented an arts-based transformative character education course. She also conducted research on the impact of arts-integrated pedagogy on college students’ social-emotional intelligence and ethical formation.

Dr. Lee completed her Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies at the University of Iowa, specializing in educational philosophy, arts integration for social-emotional empowerment, and multicultural education.
