Master of Education (M.Ed.)
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Our programs prepare educational professionals to promote positive change across educational contexts. Students examine interdisciplinary perspectives to develop expertise needed for navigating today's evolving educational landscape.
The M.Ed is designed to prepare professionals to assume administrative and professional roles, become more competitive candidates for leadership positions, and conduct inquiry which contributes to practice in higher education and other organizational settings.
The doctoral program is directed toward the development of scholars and practitioners who are lifelong learners and ethical researchers that contribute to the academic profession, broader community, and society through knowledge dissemination and professional engagement.
“Joining the EDAH program with a concentration in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration at the University of Oklahoma was a transformative experience that shaped me as a scholar, educator, practitioner, and individual. The program’s holistic and relevant coursework provided a strong foundation, seamlessly integrating theory and practice to address the complexities of higher education and intercollegiate athletics in today’s landscape. What truly set this program apart was the opportunity to engage in research collaborations with faculty who are leaders in the field. Their mentorship was instrumental in refining my research skills and fostering critical thinking, encouraging me to explore innovative ideas and contribute meaningfully to the discipline. Additionally, the program helped me build a network of colleagues and professionals who continue to inspire and support my journey. They remain an invaluable resource for advice and guidance.
My graduate school experience has been pivotal in shaping both my academic and professional paths. I am deeply grateful to the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education and the dedicated EDAH faculty and staff for their unwavering support and mentorship. I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone aspiring to build a career in intercollegiate athletics administration or to contribute as a scholar and educator in the field of college sports."
"My time in the EDAH-IAA graduate program at OU was truly the most transformative educational experience of my life. The knowledge and skills I gained through this program have proven invaluable, and I can confidently say it will prepare you for the next step in your career and personal growth. While my studies focused on Intercollegiate Athletics, being embedded within the Adult and Higher Education framework provided a unique and enriching opportunity to not only gain a deep understanding of college athletics but also enhance my ability to support adult learners as they navigate their own educational journeys. The instructors within the program, who bring real-world experience from the field of athletics and higher education, offer invaluable insights that bridge theory and practice, ensuring you gain a comprehensive and practical perspective. The EDAH program equips you with the tools to engage with students from diverse backgrounds, each with their own set of goals and reasons for being at OU. It provides the educational foundation needed to effectively support and empower any student you may encounter throughout your professional career."
“I am Cherokee and Hawaiian/Filipino, born in Oklahoma but raised far from my Tribe. I grew up as a rez girl on the Navajo Reservation, yet I wasn’t Navajo. I was always similar but never quite the same. That experience shaped me. It taught me to embrace my identity, even when it didn’t fit neatly into the expectations of others. I listened to my grandmother, absorbed everything I could about my history and culture, and learned to carry myself with pride.
Growing up, I was never supposed to succeed. The odds were stacked against me, but I refused to accept that. I became a fighter—a person who was ready to prove others wrong and stand my ground. That determination carried me into my Doctoral program at the University of Oklahoma in the EDAH program. I thought I’d have to fight just as hard there, but something unexpected happened: I was embraced.
As a graduate student at OU, I felt seen, heard, and valued. My professors and fellow doctoral students didn’t just tolerate my unique perspective—they celebrated it. My cultural knowledge, personal experiences, and academic insights were treated as primary sources, as valuable as any textbook. It was a space where my voice mattered.
Through that program, I didn’t just grow academically—I grew as a person. I found courage and strength. I developed sharp writing and research skills, honed my presentation and articulation abilities, and, most importantly, built friendships and a sense of family.
My journey wasn’t easy, but it shaped me into the professional I am today: someone who is practical, down-to-earth, and deeply connected to her community. I hope my story inspires others to embrace who they are, fight for their place in the world, and know that even when the odds seem insurmountable, there’s a way forward.”
"My experience in the Adult and Higher Education program at the University of Oklahoma has played an instrumental role in shaping my development as a Student Affairs professional. The program provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills that I apply daily, while also preparing me to grow into a more effective and impactful professional as I progress in my career. One of the most rewarding aspects of the program was the opportunity to collaborate with and learn alongside like-minded peers who share a passion for understanding and improving higher education. The faculty members I had the privilege of learning from genuinely care about student success and the future of higher education. This was evident in their thoughtful lesson planning and the intentional discussions and activities they facilitated. I greatly appreciated the chance to engage in meaningful conversations and exchange ideas with both my peers and faculty, all of whom are committed to making a positive impact in the field. My time in the program has not only shaped who I am today but also deepened my commitment to serving students in meaningful ways moving forward."
"My time in the EDAH program was both fulfilling and insightful. Academically, I had the privilege of learning and growing under the guidance of exceptional faculty. My faculty adviser consistently challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, which significantly enhanced my writing and presentation skills. The opportunity to take courses outside my department allowed me to connect with peers from diverse disciplines, whose support and collaboration were invaluable throughout my doctoral journey.
Professionally, I gained hands-on experience in various administrative tasks, including advising students, assisting with faculty and student recruitment, and supporting master’s students as they prepared for their comprehensive exams. These experiences provided me with a deeper understanding of the multifaceted roles of faculty members and prepared me well for my current position in academia. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from and interact with the incredible faculty and peers in the EDAH program."
