Welcome Back to School

Welcome Back to School!

OU IT is here for you!

August 28, 2026

Boomer Sooner!

Whether this is your first semester or your last semester, OU IT is here to support your technology needs!

From WiFi to email, classroom tech to Canvas, OU IT is here to make your experience simpler and more secure. Across many different systems, we’re the same team, and we’re all working to make your year a good one.

Get ready for Canvas MFA

PingID, OU's multi-factor authentication (MFA) service, is now required to access Canvas for those not connected to the university network (Wifi@OU for example). Ensure that you have at least one valid PingID method enrolled before classes begin so you can reach your courses without interruption.

Protect your OU account and data

Your OU account provides access to OU email, Canvas, OneDrive, Microsoft 365, and other university resources. Taking a few simple steps now can help protect your information and avoid disruptions throughout the semester.

Verify your security settings in One, including your OUIDPIN and recovery email. Together, these steps can help you quickly regain access if you lose a device, change phones, or forget your password.

Protect your account

  • OU IT will never email, text, or call you asking for your password, PingID code, or any other account credentials.
  • Be cautious of unexpected messages requesting account information or asking you to click links.
  • If you receive a PingID prompt you did not initiate, deny the request.
  • Consider registering more than one PingID method (app, text, etc.) in case you get a new phone or lose access to the first device. Be sure to remove any methods you no longer use.
  • Use a unique password for your OU account. Don’t reuse it for other sites, apps, or services.
  • Report suspicious messages or unexpected login prompts to OU IT.

Manage your OU data

  • When you store something on an OU platform such as OneDrive, take a moment to review file permissions and whether you’ve shared access with others.
  • A good habit to start now: Use a personal email address (not your OU one) for private exchanges such as banking, leases, or other long-term communications, since your access to your OU account may change if you change roles, and will end if you leave the university.
