OKLAHOMA CITY Abdul Rafeh Naqash, M.D., associate professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and an oncologist at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO).

The title is given to members of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) who have shown extraordinary service to the society, the specialty of oncology, and the patients they serve. Naqash is among a select group of physicians recognized with the FASCO designation early in their faculty careers.

“I am thrilled and honored to be named FASCO, which reflects my years of growth and engagement with ASCO,” he said. “It has been an honor to serve a patient-centered, global oncology community that has shaped both my personal and professional journey – from my early days as a trainee member to my recent role as track leader for the Annual Meeting Scientific Committee.”

On the OU Health Campus, Naqash is active as a clinician, researcher and educator. He serves as the Director for Immun-oncology at Stephenson Cancer Center.

He is the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials and grants, and he has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Oncology, Nature Reviews, Journal of Clinical Oncology, JAMA Oncology and others. He has been an invited speaker at several international conferences. Much of his research focuses on identifying biomarkers that help in the selection of the appropriate patients for appropriate therapies, as well as toxicities from immunotherapies. He is also known for his work on lung cancer.

He teaches multiple clinical topics to medical students, residents and fellows and serves as a mentor to students, fellows, research scholars and junior faculty members.

Naqash is actively engaged with other professional organizations, including the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.
