NORMAN, OKLA. – The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at The University of Oklahoma is proud to announce significant faculty and student contributions to the centennial edition of the Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly (JMCQ), the first and oldest journal in media research and the flagship journal of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).
Public Relations/Strategic Communication Professor Dr. Jeong-Nam Kim, alongside Dr. Homero Gil de Zúñiga, served as lead editors for the centennial edition, overseeing the entire project. Dr. Kim also lead authored "Mapping Media Research Paradigms: Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly’s Century of Scientific Evolution," working with a team of his authors from the Debiasing and Lay Informatics (DaLI) lab. Together, they conducted an extensive analysis of nearly 10,000 journal entries dating back to 1924. This three-year project, which harnessed advanced data science techniques, highlights the evolution and key themes in journalism and mass communication research over the last century.
In addition, Journalism Professor Dr. Robert Kerr contributed a co-authored essay entitled "A Century of JMCQ Legal Issues in Media: Scholarly Commitment to Free Press, Free Speech, and More," which delves into the evolution of media law research. Alongside his essay, the edition includes "From Pre-Science to Paradigm Shift: A Kuhnian Analysis of 100 Years of Public Relations Scholarship," co-authored by Gaylord College students and alumni James J. Hollenczer, Hyelim Lee, Ph.D., and SunHa Yeo.
