Anne Cosgrove Wimberly, a Master's in Professional Writing student, won the Best Short Screenplay award at the Austin Revolution Film Festival. Her eight-page comedy screenplay, titled "DOGZ," was selected from more than 20 entries. The screenplay offers a humorous perspective on a typical day in the life of a family of four, from their pet dogs' point of view.
Wimberly was one of three entrants in the Student Screenplay category for a full-length piece she developed in one of her graduate classes. She expressed gratitude for the support and guidance of her professors at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, particularly Dr. Jennifer Barnes, who taught her about the joys and tribulations of screenplay writing before leaving Gaylord, and Dr. Melanie Wilderman, who encouraged her to submit her work to the festival.
This was Wimberly's first film festival. She has been nominated for both of her screenplays again at the Red Dirt Film Festival in Stillwater in April, which she plans to attend.
The Red Dirt Film Festival is scheduled for April 14-16.
