Gaylord College Announces the First Recipient of the Lumine Lifetime Achievement Award

NORMAN, OKLA. – Award-winning Oklahoma director Sharron Miller will receive the inaugural Lumine Lifetime Achievement Award this February at the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College. The Lumine Lifetime Achievement Award is an annual event hosted by Gaylord College honoring exceptional women professionals who have made significant and sustained contributions to the media industry. The award will be given during Gaylord College’s Creative Media Marketplace event.

Sharron Miller is a prolific director, screenwriter, editor, and producer who has worked on some of the most successful television series of our time, including “L.A. Law,” “Cagney & Lacey,” and “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.” She has won numerous awards, including a Daytime Emmy Award, the Peabody Award, and the Christopher Award for an Afterschool Special, which she produced and directed. She also was a Primetime Emmy nominee for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series. She has more than 100 directing credits and was the first woman to win the coveted Directors Guild of America Award for directing a non-documentary (dramatic) work.

Born in Enid, Oklahoma, and raised in Perry, Sharron graduated college and headed to California, working her way up in Hollywood as one of the first female directors. When she was hired in the 1970s for her first professional directing job on “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams,” she was one of only seven women directors in Hollywood. In addition to directing TV series, Sharron has written and directed several short films and is known for eliciting Emmy Award-winning performances from her actors, including Cloris Leachman, Sharon Gless, and Peggy McCay.

The 2023 Creative Media Marketplace event for Gaylord College Creative Media Production students took place on Feb. 16-18 at Gaylord College. Sharron Miller received the Lumine Lifetime Achievement Award on Feb. 16.
