Dylan Rivera, 22, is one of the many seniors who graduated from Gaylord this semester. Majoring in Journalism, Rivera is excited to start his career as a sports producer. Working for News9 in Oklahoma City after his graduation, Rivera is ready to start his next chapter in life.
“I'm excited to get started in the field. There's a little bit of nerves, just like there would be with any big change in life, but definitely more excited than nervous,” Rivera said.
Having completed an internship with News on 6, and being involved in all three of Gaylord’s flagship programs, OU Nightly, Sooner Sports Pad and Gameday U, Rivera has a variety of experience under his belt that makes him uniquely prepared for his future career.
Working within Gaylord gave Rivera experience and connections outside of OU. Landing an internship with the sister company of News 9 last summer, Rivera worked his way around the news station.
“I was able to see how the sports department operates at a Griffin Media owned station and got to work closely with News on 6 Sports Director John Holcomb and learned a lot from him,” Rivera said. “I also shadowed news reporters one night a week.”
Learning hard work and dedication from his parents, Rivera has worked hard for the opportunities he has been given. “My parents inspire me to work hard for everything. They've always instilled a good work ethic into me, so my drive comes from them,” Rivera said.
Rivera worked diligently to get where he is today. Thankful for the connections he has made, Rivera is excited for his future.
“My motto throughout my time in Gaylord has always been ‘I just do my job,'" Rivera said, “so I feel like I should close out on that.”
