Research & Creative Activities Consultations

Individual consultations allow you to meet members of the Research & Creative Activities (R&CA) team and explore resources to help you achieve your career goals. We can help you customize short-term and multi-year strategies, identify relevant internal and external funding opportunities, and pinpoint the level of writing support to help you progress. Don’t wait! Even if you are a new faculty member or unsure where to start, we can help you identify your R&CA goals and reach them!

NOTE: CFE’s R&CA team currently has three open positions, which are in the process of being filled. During this transition period, we may not be available to provide support for every proposal request. Our availability to help will depend on the complexity of the proposal, our other commitments, and the tightness of the proposal deadline. We encourage faculty to contact us early in the proposal development process to discuss the level of CFE support available for your project.  We also encourage you to explore the wealth of resources available in the self-enroll Canvas courses associated with many of our workshop offerings.

What can I expect from a consultation?

We’ll start by asking about your goals so we can connect you to resources that support your work. We’ll ask questions that help us understand the activities you wish to pursue to reach these goals. For example: What are you hoping we can help you achieve? Do you have a project in mind? Would funding help you execute project activities, such as travel to archives or research sites? What concerns do you have as you plan your R&CA trajectory? We see ourselves as coaches who will work alongside you to support your journey.

What aspects of my research & creative activities can you help me with?

We work with any OU regular or instructional faculty who want to discuss their research and creative activities. We frequently consult with faculty on the following topics:

When should I ask for a consultation?

As soon as you have a question! We’re here to serve as a resource and we can work with you to make a plan, whether it’s for a goal that needs to be completed within the next two months or five years. We are happy to work with faculty as needs arise.

Are consultations confidential?

We do not provide information to people outside of the OU Center for Faculty Excellence without your express permission. We keep minimal documentation on consultations for internal CFE staff productivity tracking.

There are limits to confidentiality, which are articulated by the Institutional Equity Office, where we would have to report.  We are happy to discuss confidentiality with you if you have any concerns.
