OU offers a wide variety of study abroad opportunities. Several environmental programs are listed below. Programs vary by semester. More information can be found on the Study Abroad website. Stop by Farzaneh Room 144 for drop-in study abroad advising.

Check with your Environmental Studies advisor to make sure your study abroad courses will meet the major or minor requirements you need.

Sustainability Semester

OU in Arezzo will offer a Global Environment and Politics Track for the Fall 2024 semester. These classes are available to all majors, and students are not limited to the classes on the set track. Students are required to take 12 hours of course credit offered by OU in Arezzo.

The Global Environment & Politics Track courses include:

  • ENST 2203: Ecosystem Impacts Climate Change with Dr. Bruce Hoagland (Gen. Ed. Natural Science)
  • GEOG 3253: Environmental Conservation with Dr. Bruce Hoagland (Gen. Ed. Social Science)
  • IAS 3000: The Mediterranean Route: Tracking the Illicit Movement of Cultural Artifacts Across the Mediterranean Sea with Director of Italian Programs, Kirk Duclaux
  • IAS 3000: Democratic Environmentalism
  • IAS 3910: International Internship (OU in Arezzo Internships provide unique experiences and 3 hours of credit.)

Landscapes of Italy

Gardens in Florence, Italy

Landscapes of Italy is a faculty-led summer program through OU's Arezzo campus. Students learn about environmental conservation through the lens of the Mediterranean, exploring the Renaissance viewpoint, lavish gardens and the modern landscape.

Students take 6 hours of course credit: 

  • LA 4743: Garden History with Professor Bret Betnar (Western Civilization & Culture Gen Ed)
  • GEOG 3253: Environmental Conservation with Dr. Bruce Hoagland (Social Science Gen Ed)

Partner Universities

OU also offers exchange programs with courses in environmentalism and sustainability. These classes are taken through other universities, but students pay OU tuition and fees. Norman scholarships will still apply.
