- May 1, 2003 - Hans' Paleobotany Pages
- Hans Steur of The Netherlands has assembled a succinct and well illustrated history of vascular plants from the Silurian (400 mya) to the Permian (~325 mya); this time span circumscribes vascular plant evolution from its simplest forms to the seed habit. Pages on this site include: the oldest land plants, including Cooksonia, Rhynie Chert pictures (slide show), Parka decipiens, very old myriapods from Scotland, (Seed) ferns from the Piesberg and Ibbenbüren, the club-moss tree: Lepidodendron, the horsetail tree: Calamites, the gymnospermous trees: Cordaites, leaf of the seed fern tree Neuropteris, little animals in the coal swamp, Permian flora of Lodève (France), the tree fern Tempskya and some links. As the index shows, it is really quite a large site! The site is available in Dutch and English. (***1/2) -S
