About Sean Lassister:

Sean Lassiter is a writer, carpenter, and oil painter, and during business hours he works at the front desk for the University College Advising Records Office. He has been many things at the University of Oklahoma including fan, undergraduate student, graduate student, writing consultant, and academic advisor. During his graduate school years, he was a volunteer barista for Second Wind Coffeehouse. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English Writing in 2015, and a Master’s Degree in Professional Writing in 2018.

What do you like most about working with new students?

Working with students is one of the great delights of working at the University. Serving them is what it is all about, and guiding them is a privilege because that is something that must be earned. Every student has their own story and own obstacles to overcome in their journey, and being able to offer any wisdom is an honor.

What advice would you give to OU first-year students?

If I had any advice to offer students, and it be advice they are willing to accept, it would be to build a community you would be proud to be a part of after you graduate. Find the people you enjoy spending time with, but also learning with, and you may indeed find friends that may be in your life beyond your college years.

What is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is the South Oval. It always makes me think of spring when it's not too hot or cold, and the memory of fall is on the mind because Fall and Spring are so similar in Oklahoma.
