University College’s Student Learning Center Wins National Website Award

Seal to announce the NCLCA/LSCHE Web Site Excellence Award, given to the University College Student Learning Center September 2011

November 3, 2011

The National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA) and the Learning Support Centers in Higher Education (LSCHE) have given the 2011 Website Excellence Award to the University of Oklahoma’s Student Learning Center in University College. The NCLCA and LSCHE initiated the annual award in 2000, and all learning centers in the United States and Canada are eligible to participate. A strict criteria rubric is used to evaluate each entry.

Mark Walvoord, web manager for University College since January 2008, has been enhancing the college website through the help of OU’s Web Communications department and computer science graduate student, Tolu Babarinde. As director of the Student Learning Center, Mark was also eager to use web technologies to promote his department’s UC Action tutoring program, which had just started in the fall 2007 semester. He sees the website as a vital way to compile information for his student staff, other university employees, and students seeking his department’s services. During the month of September 2011, the University College website logged 7,650 visits from 2,760 visitors. Most of the page views were directed to the Student Learning Center’s UC Action schedule (http://uc.ou.edu/action).

The Student Learning Center website now proudly displays the Website Excellence Award badge, and enhancements to the University College pages continue to best serve students, staff, and other visitors.
